Wet and Dry Bar Styles
Wet and dry bars can be as simple or complex as you want. There isn’t just one style you have to stick to. In fact, you can design one to fill a room or something no wider than a kitchen sink. You really have room to be creative, but consider some of these more popular styles and varieties to help get you started:
- Cabinet and shelves – One of the most basic styles is a simple lower cabinet with one or two doors, a drawer, and some shelves above. In the middle, you have counter space to fix drinks. You display glasses on the shelves, store corkscrews and bottle openers in the drawer, and drink mix accessories in the cabinet.
- Refrigerated cabinet – This can go with any style, but instead of just standard cabinets, at least one cabinet is refrigerated to store drinks and other items, such as lime slices.
- Full bar – If the first thing you imagine with wet and dry bars is the TV show Cheers, then you might want a full bar style. These work well in basements or in a room of their own. Floor to ceiling cabinets showcase bottles and glasses. You have a mixing area, which usually includes a sink. Finally, there’s the actual bar area complete with chairs or stools.
- Kitchen island bar – If you don’t have space for a full bar, transform your kitchen island into a bar. This works for wet and dry bars. Add a wine rack to your island and hang glasses above the bar. If you have a sink in place, you have everything you need for a wet bar.
- Display cabinets – With bars, you usually want to show off your glasses and bottles. This is why cabinet doors often have glass panes or an open lattice design. You can get as artistic as you want with how the panes are designed to match the theme of your room.
- Minimalist – For a simple bar, use flat panel cabinets and simple hardware. Often, this design doesn’t even have hardware. This creates a clean, modern appearance.
- Media center – This style turns your wet or dry bar into more of a sports bar. Think of it as an entertainment center/bar combo. This works well for entertainment rooms and basements. Cabinets for drinks and glasses are on either side of a big-screen TV. Seating is available around the bar area to socialize and watch TV.
It’s also worth noting that you can place your wet and dry bar nearly anywhere, including:
- Kitchen
- Butler’s pantry
- Patio
- Basement
- Man cave
- Living room
- Entertainment/media room
- Garage
Note: If you want a wet bar, you’ll need a room with plumbing in place.
Wood Paints and/or Stains
Traditional staining and glazing helps to enhance the natural wood for a rich, classic look, or get a perfect color match to wall accents or your room’s existing cabinetry for an even more custom look. Edgewood Cabinetry can match any color or stain to perfectly suit the style you’re looking for.
Common Cabinet Wood Types
While many of the cabinets in big box stores use plywood and particleboard overlaid with veneers, Edgewood Cabinetry builds the cabinets strictly from natural woods, such as mahogany, oak, hickory, pine, cherry, and maple. Natural wood cabinets not only provide a much richer aesthetic, but are more durable and last longer.
