Is your kitchen worn, outdated, or lacking in functionality? Then, new cabinets may be exactly the upgrade you need. It’s an easy way to create whole new look without doing a full remodel. So give your kitchen a facelift with these irresistible kitchen cabinet designs.

Country/Rustic

Do you love warm, natural tones? Then country/rustic cabinets are perfect for your home. That’s because they let the beauty and warmth of natural wood shine through. Plus, country/rustic cabinets highlight natural elements, like knots, that give the wood character. As a general rule, rustic/country cabinets are typically stained, glazed, or painted. And they may feature wire mesh or iron hardware that adds to their charm.

Shaker

If simple but functional is your style, Shaker cabinets fit the bill. In fact, they’re one of the most popular choices for homeowners today. That’s a result of their sleek, minimalist appearance with a functional five-piece design. In fact, Shaker cabinets fit well with most decor. So they’re an excellent option for giving your kitchen a facelift without doing a full remodel. So easy!

Traditional

Prefer a kitchen that’s grand and formal? No problem! Traditional cabinets are just what you need. Their timeless elegance, intricate designs, and embellishments create a kitchen fit for a queen. And because there’s plenty of room for creativity, traditional cabinet designs can be as simple or elaborate as you like. Perfection!

Modern/Contemporary

At the other end of the spectrum, modern/contemporary cabinets make use of streamlined, flat surfaces. And they typically have sleek, minimalist, or no visible hardware. Additionally, modern/contemporary cabinets are typically painted. And they frequently make use of colors like black and gray that accentuate their sleek appearance. Further, in order to add shine, they often have a high-gloss finish.

Glass Panels

Cabinets that incorporate glass panels lend an elegant look to your kitchen. And adding lighting accentuates them even more. But remember, cabinets with glass panels need to stay organized in order to look good. So they aren’t the best cabinet design if you don’t neatly stack your dishes. On the other hand, if you love displaying your fine china, they’re perfect!

Edgy

Want to take a modern cabinet style even further? Try cabinets with a sleek, minimal frame and glass doors. Choose a bold color, like black, to highlight the narrow edges of your cabinets and countertop. Then, contrast it with lighter beige or grey cabinets on the bottom. The finished look gives your kitchen an edgy, industrial flair. And that equates to an instant facelift for your kitchen.

Bold Colors

Bright colors make a bold statement in your kitchen. So if you’d like to add pops of color, choose bold white or black as the base color. That way, colorful decor and accents have more contrast. Alternatively, both light blue and navy blue are popular selections. Or create a striking appearance with shades of green. Want even more contrast? Opt for two colors instead! And remember, neutrals can be bold, too. Gray and ivory work well as strong neutral choices.

Floor-to-Ceiling Cabinets

Replacing stock cabinets with custom cabinets is a significant upgrade. That’s because they make use of every bit of space in your kitchen. And adding storage space is always a win! Plus, floor-to-ceiling cabinet designs give your kitchen a stately, impressive appearance. So they’re a surefire way to give your kitchen a facelift. Prefer more counterspace? That’s OK! Your upper cabinets can still reach the ceiling.

Unique Hardware

Unique hardware is great for giving your kitchen a facelift. There are plenty of stylish designs! Plus, unique hardware allows your personality to shine through. So choose from popular modern or traditional cabinet hardware styles. Or add a unique twist with novelty hardware. For instance, select seashells for a coastal theme. kitchen with marble top island

Are you thinking about remodeling your kitchen and wondering if it’s worth the investment? It is! The exact amount varies based on your unique home and the renovations you choose. But kitchen remodels are typically very sound investments. Here’s how kitchen remodels can improve your home’s value.

Kitchen Remodels Increase Your Home’s Appeal

Think back to when you bought your home. Did the kitchen influence your decision? We thought so. It does for most people. That’s because a beautiful, functional kitchen with plenty of storage space is a huge selling point for a home.

Kitchens are called the heart of the home for good reason. It’s where you cook and share meals with your family, grab a quick breakfast, entertain guests, and maybe even catch a Zoom meeting now and then. You have many conversations and make many memories in the kitchen. So a warm, inviting kitchen adds to your home’s appeal.

It follows, then, that increasing your home’s appeal through a kitchen remodel also adds to your home’s value. When prospective buyers tour your home, they imagine themselves in the kitchen. So you’re more likely to get a great offer if your kitchen is updated, beautiful, and contains plenty of storage space.

A Luxe Remodel Won’t Give You the Best ROI

For many homeowners, a luxury kitchen full of high-end appliances and fixtures is a dream come true. But it won’t give you a huge return on your investment. In fact, a full upscale kitchen remodel only returns about 31.7% of your investment. That’s because all those luxury upgrades come with a higher pricetag than a more modest remodel.

However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do a luxe remodel. If you don’t plan to sell your home soon, it makes sense to remodel your kitchen in a way you love. After all, it’s still a worthwhile investment if your new kitchen brings you greater joy and ease of use. You deserve it!

Adding a Kitchen Island Improves Your Home’s Value

Adding a new kitchen island is one of the simplest ways to improve your home’s value. And it’s more affordable than doing a full remodel. Plus, kitchen islands come in a range of options. So you have the freedom to choose exactly which features you would like to include. Hello, new home bar!

Remember, though, that while kitchen islands are available at big box stores, they don’t add much value to your home. So it’s worth investing in a custom kitchen island, especially if that’s the only upgrade you’re making. That way, your new kitchen island will match the rest of your kitchen. And that’s crucial for improving your home’s value.

It’s also worth noting that kitchen islands are a great selling point for your home because they’re always in demand. So whether you choose a simple island for extra storage or a fully equipped island with a cooktop, you’re sure to improve your home’s value.

Improve Your Home’s Value With New Cabinets

When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, investing in new cabinets is one of the best ways to improve your home’s value.  Cabinets don’t cost as much as a full remodel. So you enjoy a much higher return on your investment, around 85.7%. And because installing new cabinets doesn’t take as much time as a full remodel, you also enjoy your improvements sooner. Win!

So what type of cabinets should you choose? Custom kitchen cabinets offer significant advantages over stock cabinets from big box stores. They’re more durable, are customized to match your kitchen’s size and decor, and include as many features as you like. For instance, choose the type of wood you like. Select the size of your cabinets. And decide whether to include accessories like spice racks, drawer organizers, and pull-outs.

Remember, buyers place a lot of value on cabinet space. And custom cabinets help you maximize your kitchen space. Indeed, many homeowners are pleasantly surprised at how much more usable space custom cabinets create. So it’s always a worthwhile investment.

Are you preparing to upgrade your kitchen? If so, it’s the perfect time to add useful features to your kitchen. Whether you want the luxury of a home bar or desperately need more storage, custom kitchen amenities offer solutions. Here are seven kitchen design amenities you didn’t know you needed.

1. Drawer Organizers

How often do you find yourself searching through a jumble of utensils for the one that you need? Or do you find that large utensils, like spatulas, frequently shift and block drawers from fully opening at all? Thankfully, drawer organizers are a simple solution to prevent this. That’s because they separate and neatly store utensils, lids, small accessories, and more. So you’ll have no problem reaching into your drawers and finding what you need!

2. Lazy Susans

Like drawer organizers, lazy Susans help you make the most of your space. So they’re especially helpful for cabinet spaces that are difficult to reach and would otherwise go unused. Instead, cans, spices, jars, and more become easily accessible just by spinning your lazy Susan. We recommend choosing lazy Susans with multiple levels to maximize your space.

3. Pull-Outs

Pull-outs are one kitchen design amenity you’re sure to appreciate. After all, no one likes to see visible trash or recycling. Fortunately, with pull-outs, garbage and recycling are stowed neatly out of sight. And you’re sure to love all the space you’ll gain. In addition, pull-outs are excellent for making use of narrow spaces. So they’re perfect for storing spices, jars, or even utensils.

4.  Home Bar

Do you love hosting friends for game night? Or are you a wine connoisseur with a collection of vintages you can’t wait to display? Alternatively, do you simply relish the idea of relaxing with a chilled cocktail at the end of the day? If so, a home bar is the amenity you didn’t know you needed. Whether you want a simple wine rack and glass storage or a full wet bar with refrigerated cabinets, Edgewood Cabinetry is able to help all your home bar dreams come true!

5. Coffee Bar

A coffee bar is the perfect place to grab a pick-me-up in the morning or to brew beverages for your family or guests. So why not include one in your next kitchen remodel? For instance, include custom storage for your coffee maker, espresso machine, or French press. And don’t forget designated spaces for all your utensils and accessories! Likewise, be sure to add compartments for coffee pods, sugar, coffee grounds, creamer, flavored syrups, and more to finish your custom coffee bar.

6. Kitchen Island

Kitchen islands have become increasingly popular–and for good reason! They’re truly multi-functional and add tons of utility to your kitchen. So whether you’re dreaming of a breakfast nook with built-in storage for stools or you want space for a second cooktop and prep area, a kitchen island fits the bill. Furthermore, it’s the perfect place to gain additional counter space and storage or add specialty appliances. There are so many possibilities!

7. Pet Food Station

You have your table or bar, but where does your pet eat? Are your pet’s bowls sitting awkwardly in a corner of your kitchen, taking up valuable floor space? Or do you frequently deal with messes from your sloppy eater? Fortunately, there is a solution. Many homeowners are adding pet food stations to their kitchens. A simple built-in nook provides an out-of-the way space for pets to eat. Alternatively, add storage for pet food bags and treats to keep everything organized and within reach. Or go all-out with space for leashes and a cozy bed!

If you’re thinking of upgrading your kitchen, consider adding these amenities. And if you have something else in mind, don’t be afraid to ask! If you can dream it, we can build it! So reach out and share your ideas with us! We can help you work through the design process so you get exactly the amenities you need.

2. Traditional Elements

Do you love the old-fashioned elegance of traditional cabinets? If so, it’s your time to shine! Cabinets with traditional elements are on trend for 2023. So whether you yearn for the elegance of a Parisian kitchen or Americana is more your style, adding traditional elements to your custom cabinets can make your dreams come true!

Ornate molding, arched designs, and raised panels bring a traditional feel to your kitchen. And with custom cabinets, you can embellish your design as much or as little as you like. Finally, you can design your own unique cabinets and be in style!

3. Flat, Sleek Doors

Simplicity is in style for 2023, and that includes cabinet doors. Sleek, flat doors are really having a moment. So if you love the simple, modern look, this is a great time to upgrade your cabinets.

Furthermore, flat, sleek doors go perfectly with the latest trends of open kitchens that extend into both indoor and outdoor living space. The simple, sleek design allows for uninterrupted visual lines. And that makes your kitchen feel larger and more open.

4. Hidden Storage

Cabinets with hidden storage are one of the hottest design trends in 2023. That’s because no one likes cluttered countertops. So opting for cabinets with plenty of interior storage options makes sense. They keep all your unsightly clutter and unused appliances tucked neatly out of sight.

For instance, add corner cabinets with organizers to store specialty appliances. Or move your garbage and recycling to hidden pull-outs. Alternatively, include lazy Susans to organize your cans and jars. Or opt for built-in spice racks to organize your collection of spices. There are tons of options and accessories available to fit your needs!

5. Simple Hardware

When it comes to hardware, simplicity is once again on trend. That’s why bar pulls are so hot right now. In fact, an overwhelming 72% of homeowners are choosing them. But don’t worry if you’re not a fan of bar pulls. Knobs and cup pulls are still solid choices.

The most important thing to remember is that your hardware should fit with your cabinet design. So if you’re trying to achieve a sleek, minimalistic look, bar pulls are the obvious option. But if you’re opting for a more traditional style, knobs and cup pulls are often better choices.

6. Tried and True

Cabinet trends come and go, but some styles have remained popular. So if you’re not a fan of some of the new trends, you’ll be happy to know that some tried-and-true cabinet styles are still hot in 2023.

For example, shaker style cabinets are still the most frequently chosen design. So if flat panels don’t appeal to you, you can’t go wrong with a nice set of shaker cabinets.

Additionally, white remains the most in-demand color for new cabinets. So if showcasing natural woodgrain isn’t your style, it’s perfectly fine to choose white cabinets. Your kitchen will get a refresh, and you’ll be following 2023’s hottest color trend.

Sometimes, it’s hard to know when to replace your kitchen cabinets. After all, getting new cabinets is a major investment. So it’s natural to want them to last as long as possible. And yet, you find yourself becoming annoyed by your current cabinets and dreaming of replacing them.

So how do you know when it’s the right time to invest in new kitchen cabinets? Here are four signs your kitchen cabinets need replacing.

1. You Hate the Way Your Cabinets Look

Do your cabinets have worn or stained areas that have become an eyesore? Are they outdated? Or maybe your cabinets just don’t match your personal style. Whatever the case, if you hate the way your cabinets look, it’s a sign they need replacing.

Your home is your sanctuary. And your kitchen should be a warm, inviting space that you enjoy spending time in. So if your cabinets prevent you from loving your kitchen, it’s time for an upgrade. Fortunately, with custom kitchen cabinets, you can choose every detail, from the style and color to the hardware on the doors. So pick cabinets you love, and watch the entire aesthetic of your kitchen change!

2. Your Cabinets Are Damaged

Damage is the most obvious sign your kitchen cabinets need replacing. However, damage comes in many forms. Check for warping, water spots, and mold. These are signs that your cabinets need replacing.

Doors that don’t close properly, bubbling under the surface, splintering wood, and built-up grime are also serious issues that warrant replacing your cabinets. So if you see obvious damage to your cabinets, it’s time to replace them. However, if you notice water damage or mold, be sure to consult a plumber to fix any leaks before installing new cabinets in your kitchen.

3. You Need Better Functionality

If your cabinets just don’t do what you need them to do, it’s a sign they need replacing. Homes are often built with cheap stock cabinets that aren’t adequate for your storage needs. And if you have an older home, there’s a good chance your cabinets were built before there was a need to store multiple modern kitchen appliances.

Thankfully, it’s easy to get the functionality you need with custom kitchen cabinets. We offer all the kitchen cabinet options and accessories you need to maximize your cabinets’ functionality. For example, drawer inserts keep your utensils organized. Pull-outs store your trash out of sight. And lazy Susans put all your pantry essentials within reach.

When it comes to customizing kitchen cabinets, the sky is the limit! So choose the options and accessories you like best, and enjoy fully functional cabinets that truly work for you!

4. Your Cabinets Are Too Small

A lack of storage space is a common pain point for homeowners. Many kitchens were designed with stock cabinets that just aren’t big enough for all your appliances, pots, pans, and other kitchen items. And often, kitchens include just a few cabinets and shelves instead of maximizing the available wall space. So if you find yourself cluttering your counters and searching for additional storage, your kitchen cabinets need replacing.

Fortunately, getting the storage space you need is easy with custom kitchen cabinets. That’s because custom cabinets are built to fit your unique kitchen. So instead of being limited to standard sizes, you can make use of every inch of available space.

Plus, there are tons of options to help you maximize your storage space. For instance, install corner cabinets to store large appliances. Include a wine rack to organize your favorite vintages. Add on-door storage racks for supplies. Corral your spices in a spice rack. Place a China cabinet in your dining room. Or opt for a new kitchen island for extra storage that doubles as the perfect place to enjoy breakfast. The possibilities are endless!

So what do you think? Do any of these signs apply to your kitchen cabinets? If so, it’s time for an upgrade!

natural woodgrain kitchen cabinets

One of the best things about purchasing custom kitchen cabinets is you get to choose every detail, from the wood color and species to the hardware and accessories. But with so many options available, it’s often hard to decide what’s best. Frequently, one of the most difficult decisions customers face is selecting the wood species they want.

So are some woods better than others for kitchen cabinets? Absolutely. Here’s what you need to know.

Some Woods Are More Durable

Your kitchen is hard on wood. Steam from cooking, moisture from washing dishes, and chemicals from household cleaners all take a toll on your cabinets. Plus, there’s all the wear and tear from opening and closing all those doors and drawers. So you definitely need to choose a wood species that is strong enough to handle a kitchen environment.

Close-grained hardwoods like cherry, hickory, and maple are excellent choices for your kitchen. That’s because they’re not easily warped by the wet environment in your kitchen. And they’re strong enough to hold up to years of use without becoming distressed.

Some Woods Look Better Stained

Another factor you need to take into consideration is whether you want the wood grain in your cabinets to be visible. For example, rustic cabinets typically feature natural wood grain, including knots, worm holes, and other unique characteristics. So if you enjoy the natural wood aesthetic, you need to choose a type of wood that looks good stained.

Pine, cherry, hickory, alder, walnut, and oak all look beautiful stained. So think about the color and characteristics of the wood you would like to have in your kitchen. Then, choose a species to match.

Some Woods Are Better for Painting

On the other hand, if you prefer painted cabinets, you need to choose wood that is smooth. Typically, maple works best for painted cabinets. It’s a durable hardwood that will stand up to use in your kitchen. But the grain of wood is small, so it won’t interfere with a smooth finish.

Modern and contemporary cabinets are typically painted, so maple is a great choice if you prefer these styles. Maple also works well for Shaker cabinets, since they are frequently painted, too.

Some Woods Better Fit Certain Cabinet Styles

Custom wood cabinets are a sizeable investment, so you want to be certain you’ll love the finished product. To that end, it’s important to consider the cabinet style you want when selecting a wood species. Some woods better fit certain cabinet styles.

As we mentioned above, maple is typically featured in modern and contemporary cabinets, but it can also be used in Shaker and rustic/country cabinets, too. In addition to maple, country/rustic cabinets often feature hardwoods like oak, hickory, and pine. Shaker cabinets most often feature woods native to the Northeastern United States, like maple, oak, hickory, and cherry. And traditional cabinets make a formal statement with woods like mahogany, cherry, and walnut.

Some Woods Are Easier On Your Budget

Some species of wood, like pine, tend to be cheaper. And other species, like mahogany, tend to be on the more expensive side. So you may need to take your budget into consideration when choosing a wood species.

However, because we use high-grade materials and construction techniques, we find that the type of finish and style of door you choose have the most impact on the price of your cabinets. So before you discount a particular species of wood, it’s worth getting a quote to see whether it fits in your budget after all.

When it comes to kitchen cabinets, some woods are definitely better than others. But don’t worry, we’re happy to help you choose the right species to fit your vision. Give us a call or contact us online to begin the process.

Thinking of adding rustic cabinets to your kitchen? You’re not alone! Rustic kitchen cabinets are a popular choice. Here’s why so many love the rustic cabinet look.

They’re Beautiful

First and foremost, rustic cabinets are beautiful. They give an instant appeal to your kitchen due to the natural woodgrain. Plus, they’re artfully finished with elements like wormholes and sanded edges. This, combined with hand-rubbed glazes, gives rustic cabinets a striking appearance. So they’re a popular choice for many people. They always enhance your kitchen’s aesthetic. That’s why you really can’t go wrong when choosing the rustic cabinet look for your home. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of style.

They Add a Touch of Nature

It’s no secret that nature gives us a sense of peace. So including natural elements in your home helps you feel more at ease. That’s why so many people love having houseplants, for example. Without a doubt, rustic cabinets help your kitchen feel more natural. That’s because rustic cabinets show off the natural woodgrain and include elements like knots and color variations. So they instantly lend a peaceful, natural effect to your kitchen. Stone, metal, and faux or live plants amplify the effect.

Rustic Cabinets Bring Warmth to Your Home

There’s something about rustic cabinets that brings a feeling of warmth and comfort to your home. It harkens back to times gone by, when homes were built from wood and stone. Rustic cabinets create a welcoming, warm kitchen that feels inviting to both you and your guests. It’s easy to imagine you’re in a cozy cabin in the middle of the woods or a beautiful lodge in the wilderness. Indeed, there’s no better way to bring warmth to your home than by opting for the rustic cabinet look. Brew some coffee and bake some homemade muffins for cozy perfection.

Rustic Cabinets are Durable

Rustic cabinets don’t just look great. They’re durable, too. And that’s important when you make a major investment in your kitchen. You want your new cabinets to last! Thankfully, because rustic cabinets are made from solid wood, they do. Just be sure you purchase your cabinets from a reputable company, like Edgewood Cabinetry, rather than cheaper cabinets covered in veneer. They don’t last as long as cabinets made from furniture-grade hardwood. So choose quality rustic cabinets that hold up well to the heat and moisture in your kitchen.

Your Cabinets Are Unique

Rustic cabinets include natural imperfections in the wood, like bird peck, knots, checks, sapwood, spalting, and end-splits. While these are removed from other styles of cabinets, they give rustic cabinets character. And they make your cabinets unique. Just as no tree is exactly the same, your cabinets aren’t a copy of anyone else’s. They’re unique to your home. And that makes them pretty special. Many people love the rustic cabinet look for exactly this reason. Rustic cabinets are like an original piece of art. There are no other cabinets in the world exactly like yours. That’s incredible.

They’re Customizable

One of the best things about rustic cabinets is the ability to customize them to create exactly the style you want. That is, as long as you’re working with a custom cabinet maker like Edgewood Cabinetry. For instance, some add clear glass or stained glass panels. Others incorporate mesh or tin elements into their cabinets. The sky’s the limit! Whether you want a country kitchen with mesh inserts or a cabin-like aesthetic with maple wood and a stained glass focal point, rustic cabinets are the perfect choice.

Are you interested in installing rustic cabinets in your kitchen? We love turning dreams into reality! At Edgewood Cabinetry, we offer rustic cabinets made from furniture-grade hardwoods, like maple, oak, and hickory, along with a variety of glazes, hardware, and custom elements like mesh and glass. And don’t forget, we also offer a multitude of kitchen cabinet accessories to improve the functionality of your new cabinets, like drawer inserts, storage racks, pull-outs, and pull downs. Thinking about getting new kitchen cabinets? You probably have tons of questions. And we have answers! Here are five of the most frequently asked questions about the kitchen cabinet and design installation process.

1. Will I Need a Permit?

The answer to this depends on where you live, but it’s possible. That’s because installing custom kitchen cabinets sometimes requires modifications to your electrical system. Additionally, you may need to modify your plumbing. And you may even want to move a wall. All of these processes require permits.

Don’t be intimidated, though! Permits and inspections serve to protect you from harm. And as a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor, we are happy to help you through the process. You can learn more about which projects typically require permits here. But remember, you should always check with your city before starting any home improvement project to be certain of your local requirements. Here’s additional information on which kitchen projects typically don’t require permits.

2. How Long Will It Take?

When you opt for custom kitchen cabinets, you’re hiring a professional to make and install cabinets for your unique space. The time it takes to complete the project is highly variable and dependent on your exact circumstances. For example, more elaborate designs and unusual sizes take longer to make than stock cabinets do. Everything from the layout of your kitchen to the design you choose will impact the time it takes to complete your remodel.

What you can expect, however, is clear and continuing communication throughout the process. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your results, so we take the time to plan every detail. As a result, you receive well-planned and well-built cabinets that fit perfectly into your home. And doing things right the first time always saves you time in the end.

3. How Does The Design Process Work?

Typically, we begin the design process by working directly with you. After all, they’re your cabinets, and we want to ensure everything is exactly how you want it. So we’ll discuss options with you and help you establish a budget. And we’ll answer any questions you have throughout the process.

Finally, we’ll create exact samples of your cabinet doors for your approval. Then, once you have approved the final design, we’ll move ahead to the construction and installation process.

4. How Do I Know Which Species of Wood to Choose?

Rest assured that we will help you select the best species of wood for your needs. Since we build custom cabinets, we don’t place limits on the type of wood you can choose for your kitchen. So if there’s a species you love, bring it up! We’ll let you know if it will work for your intended purpose.

In general, however, close-grained hardwoods are the best species for your kitchen. That’s because they hold up well to all the environmental factors they will inevitably be exposed to. Cleaners, steam, and water, for example, all take a toll on cabinets. Close-grained hardwoods, like maple, cherry, and hickory, are better able to withstand these exposures than are softer woods.

5. Can I Choose Painted Cabinets to Save Money?

When it comes to custom cabinets, the final price will depend on the options you select, and that includes the finish. Generally speaking, it’s true that painted cabinets are cheaper than those with natural wood finishes. However, it’s important to remember that here at Edgewood Cabinetry, we make all our cabinets from high-grade wood and use specialized construction techniques. As such, it’s not always the case that painted cabinets are cheaper.

For instance, specialty paints and complex door designs are often more expensive than a simple door with a clear lacquer finish. Indeed, the style of door you choose, along with the type of finish, typically has more influence on the overall price than whether you choose paint versus wood. Thankfully, though, it doesn’t hurt to explore your options. We don’t charge for design consultation, so there’s no obstacle to finding a style you love that fits within your budget.
