Thinking of adding rustic cabinets to your kitchen? You’re not alone! Rustic kitchen cabinets are a popular choice. Here’s why so many love the rustic cabinet look.

They’re Beautiful

First and foremost, rustic cabinets are beautiful. They give an instant appeal to your kitchen due to the natural woodgrain. Plus, they’re artfully finished with elements like wormholes and sanded edges. This, combined with hand-rubbed glazes, gives rustic cabinets a striking appearance. So they’re a popular choice for many people. They always enhance your kitchen’s aesthetic. That’s why you really can’t go wrong when choosing the rustic cabinet look for your home. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of style.

They Add a Touch of Nature

It’s no secret that nature gives us a sense of peace. So including natural elements in your home helps you feel more at ease. That’s why so many people love having houseplants, for example. Without a doubt, rustic cabinets help your kitchen feel more natural. That’s because rustic cabinets show off the natural woodgrain and include elements like knots and color variations. So they instantly lend a peaceful, natural effect to your kitchen. Stone, metal, and faux or live plants amplify the effect.

Rustic Cabinets Bring Warmth to Your Home

There’s something about rustic cabinets that brings a feeling of warmth and comfort to your home. It harkens back to times gone by, when homes were built from wood and stone. Rustic cabinets create a welcoming, warm kitchen that feels inviting to both you and your guests. It’s easy to imagine you’re in a cozy cabin in the middle of the woods or a beautiful lodge in the wilderness. Indeed, there’s no better way to bring warmth to your home than by opting for the rustic cabinet look. Brew some coffee and bake some homemade muffins for cozy perfection.

Rustic Cabinets are Durable

Rustic cabinets don’t just look great. They’re durable, too. And that’s important when you make a major investment in your kitchen. You want your new cabinets to last! Thankfully, because rustic cabinets are made from solid wood, they do. Just be sure you purchase your cabinets from a reputable company, like Edgewood Cabinetry, rather than cheaper cabinets covered in veneer. They don’t last as long as cabinets made from furniture-grade hardwood. So choose quality rustic cabinets that hold up well to the heat and moisture in your kitchen.

Your Cabinets Are Unique

Rustic cabinets include natural imperfections in the wood, like bird peck, knots, checks, sapwood, spalting, and end-splits. While these are removed from other styles of cabinets, they give rustic cabinets character. And they make your cabinets unique. Just as no tree is exactly the same, your cabinets aren’t a copy of anyone else’s. They’re unique to your home. And that makes them pretty special. Many people love the rustic cabinet look for exactly this reason. Rustic cabinets are like an original piece of art. There are no other cabinets in the world exactly like yours. That’s incredible.

They’re Customizable

One of the best things about rustic cabinets is the ability to customize them to create exactly the style you want. That is, as long as you’re working with a custom cabinet maker like Edgewood Cabinetry. For instance, some add clear glass or stained glass panels. Others incorporate mesh or tin elements into their cabinets. The sky’s the limit! Whether you want a country kitchen with mesh inserts or a cabin-like aesthetic with maple wood and a stained glass focal point, rustic cabinets are the perfect choice.

Are you interested in installing rustic cabinets in your kitchen? We love turning dreams into reality! At Edgewood Cabinetry, we offer rustic cabinets made from furniture-grade hardwoods, like maple, oak, and hickory, along with a variety of glazes, hardware, and custom elements like mesh and glass. And don’t forget, we also offer a multitude of kitchen cabinet accessories to improve the functionality of your new cabinets, like drawer inserts, storage racks, pull-outs, and pull downs. Purchasing new kitchen cabinets is a major investment. So you want to make sure the work is done right. But how can you be sure you’re hiring a good contractor to build and install your cabinets? By asking the right questions! Here are six questions to ask before choosing a kitchen cabinet contractor.

1. Can You Provide Your License Number?

Unfortunately, there are plenty of people out there who make promises they don’t deliver. Asking for a contractor’s license number is a good way to weed them out. If a contractor won’t provide a license number, steer clear. They likely don’t have one at all.

On the other hand, a reputable contractor should be ready and willing to share their license number. Not only does this give you confidence that the contractor is legitimate, but it also gives you the ability to check whether there have been any recent complaints against the contractor, too. Just reach out to your state’s consumer affairs department to check that the contractor is in good standing.

2. Do You Have Insurance?

The second question you should always ask a potential contractor is whether they have insurance. The last thing you want is to make a pricey kitchen cabinet investment only to have something go wrong and learn your contractor isn’t insured. Asking about insurance potentially saves you from trouble later.

A good contractor should carry liability insurance, automobile insurance, and workman’s compensation insurance (if they have employees). This both protects your investment and shields you from liability for accidents, injuries, and public property damage. Never hire a contractor who is uninsured.

3. What’s Your Wait Time, and How Many Current Projects Do You Have?

It’s natural to be excited for your kitchen remodel to start. You want your new cabinets as soon as possible! But it’s not always a good sign if a contractor is available to work on your project right away. After all, a busy contractor is probably popular for a reason!

So ask about typical wait times and how many projects the contractor currently has going on. It’ll give you an idea of how in-demand the contractor’s services are. And you’ll have a better idea of how long you have to prepare for your kitchen renovation to begin.

4. How Does the Installation Process Work?

If you’ve never had new kitchen cabinets installed, you probably don’t know what the process involves. So ask the contractor how their process works. Be sure to ask about what you can expect, how long your kitchen will be unavailable, and how the contractor will keep in contact with you.

Understanding what to expect from the kitchen cabinet installation process allows you to plan around the work that’s going on. And it gives you a realistic idea of what to expect. And with everyone on the same page, the process is much more likely to progress smoothly.

5. Do You Offer a Warranty?

Installing new kitchen cabinets is a great way to improve both your home’s aesthetic and its resale value. So it’s typically a sound investment. But what happens when it’s not? Since kitchen cabinets cost a significant amount of money, you should always ask whether a contractor offers a warranty.

No one can protect against unforeseen accidents or misuse of your new cabinets. So if  your 10-year-old son and his friend ruin your cabinets with frequent water fights in the kitchen, that’s not covered. But your contractor should offer a warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship for a certain amount of time to protect your investment. Here at Edgewood Cabinetry, for example, we warranty our cabinets for five years if they fail under normal use due to defects in workmanship or materials.

Hiring a contractor to build and install new kitchen cabinets is a big decision. Asking these five questions will help you choose a reputable one.

Would you like to learn more about whether Edgewood Cabinetry is a good fit for you? We’re happy to answer your questions and give you a free quote. Just drop us a line, and we’ll be in touch soon!

Thinking about getting new kitchen cabinets? You probably have tons of questions. And we have answers! Here are five of the most frequently asked questions about the kitchen cabinet and design installation process.

1. Will I Need a Permit?

The answer to this depends on where you live, but it’s possible. That’s because installing custom kitchen cabinets sometimes requires modifications to your electrical system. Additionally, you may need to modify your plumbing. And you may even want to move a wall. All of these processes require permits.

Don’t be intimidated, though! Permits and inspections serve to protect you from harm. And as a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor, we are happy to help you through the process. You can learn more about which projects typically require permits here. But remember, you should always check with your city before starting any home improvement project to be certain of your local requirements. Here’s additional information on which kitchen projects typically don’t require permits.

2. How Long Will It Take?

When you opt for custom kitchen cabinets, you’re hiring a professional to make and install cabinets for your unique space. The time it takes to complete the project is highly variable and dependent on your exact circumstances. For example, more elaborate designs and unusual sizes take longer to make than stock cabinets do. Everything from the layout of your kitchen to the design you choose will impact the time it takes to complete your remodel.

What you can expect, however, is clear and continuing communication throughout the process. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your results, so we take the time to plan every detail. As a result, you receive well-planned and well-built cabinets that fit perfectly into your home. And doing things right the first time always saves you time in the end.

3. How Does The Design Process Work?

Typically, we begin the design process by working directly with you. After all, they’re your cabinets, and we want to ensure everything is exactly how you want it. So we’ll discuss options with you and help you establish a budget. And we’ll answer any questions you have throughout the process.

Finally, we’ll create exact samples of your cabinet doors for your approval. Then, once you have approved the final design, we’ll move ahead to the construction and installation process.

4. How Do I Know Which Species of Wood to Choose?

Rest assured that we will help you select the best species of wood for your needs. Since we build custom cabinets, we don’t place limits on the type of wood you can choose for your kitchen. So if there’s a species you love, bring it up! We’ll let you know if it will work for your intended purpose.

In general, however, close-grained hardwoods are the best species for your kitchen. That’s because they hold up well to all the environmental factors they will inevitably be exposed to. Cleaners, steam, and water, for example, all take a toll on cabinets. Close-grained hardwoods, like maple, cherry, and hickory, are better able to withstand these exposures than are softer woods.

5. Can I Choose Painted Cabinets to Save Money?

When it comes to custom cabinets, the final price will depend on the options you select, and that includes the finish. Generally speaking, it’s true that painted cabinets are cheaper than those with natural wood finishes. However, it’s important to remember that here at Edgewood Cabinetry, we make all our cabinets from high-grade wood and use specialized construction techniques. As such, it’s not always the case that painted cabinets are cheaper.

For instance, specialty paints and complex door designs are often more expensive than a simple door with a clear lacquer finish. Indeed, the style of door you choose, along with the type of finish, typically has more influence on the overall price than whether you choose paint versus wood. Thankfully, though, it doesn’t hurt to explore your options. We don’t charge for design consultation, so there’s no obstacle to finding a style you love that fits within your budget.

kitchen cabinet accessories

Installing new kitchen cabinets? Great! You have the perfect opportunity to design your dream kitchen space and have everything exactly how you want it.

So don’t just focus on the exterior of the cabinets. Get the customized storage you need! Before you install your new cabinets, explore all of these incredible kitchen cabinet accessories.

Corner and Base Cabinet Organizers

Are you sick of opening your cabinet to an avalanche of plastic? Or are you tired of your entire cabinet being taken up by awkward piles of lids? If so, corner and base cabinet organizers are your new best friends.

Corner cabinets offer tons of space when they’re properly organized. For instance, a corner cabinet organizer neatly stores all your specialty appliances and the accessories that go with them. And a base cabinet organizer is perfect for storing all those plastic storage containers and lids!

Pull-Outs and Pull-Downs

Obviously, no one wants to display their trash to guests. It’s unsightly! And let’s be honest, the smell isn’t great either. So why ruin the perfect look of your new kitchen with trash cans and recycling bins? Keep it all out of sight with pull-outs and pull-downs.

With this purpose in mind, pull-outs and pull-downs offer you a way to easily store trash and recycling within your cabinets. Just pull down on the handle or slide the bin out, toss your garbage or recycling in, and close the door. Plus, emptying the bins is just as easy! Simply open the cabinet, remove the bin, empty it, and return it to the cabinet. So easy!

Lazy Susans

Imagine being able to open your cabinets and simply spin a lazy Susan to find what you need. No more moving stacks of cans or reaching around boxes. Finally, everything will be neatly organized and within your reach.

Lazy Susans are perfect options for cans, jars, and spices. They’re also wonderful for organizing coffee, tea, and cocoa. Or use a lazy Susan to organize all those cleaning supplies under your sink.

Drawer Inserts

We are firm believers that having a place for everything and everything in its place makes life simpler and better. And drawer inserts are the perfect way to do that.

Cooking utensils, silverware, and small items all too frequently turn into a jumbled mess in kitchen drawers. Fortunately, drawer inserts easily organize the contents of your drawers. And they’re customizable to fit your own unique needs!

Spice Racks

If you do a lot of cooking, you know there’s never enough room for your spices. They end up all over the place–on the back of your stove, cluttering your counters, and taking over your cabinets.

Thankfully, there’s an easy and beautiful solution to reduce your kitchen clutter–spice racks! Spice racks are easily added to any of your new kitchen cabinets, and they’re customizable to fit different size jars. So add one, two, or 10!

Wine Racks

What’s dinner without a little wine? Whether you want to display your favorite vintages or just keep bottles within easy reach to pair with dinner, wine racks are a beautiful addition to your cabinets.

Best of all, wine racks are completely customizable! So tuck your bottles neatly away inside a cabinet. Or put them on full display with a gorgeous rack that’s built into your kitchen island. Alternatively, go all out by creating a home bar in your kitchen. The sky’s the limit!

kitchen island and cabinets

Installing new kitchen cabinets is a big decision. After all, it’s a significant investment. So you want to get it right.

But how do you know which style of cabinets is best for your home? Here are four kitchen cabinet design styles to consider for your project.

1. Shaker

The Shaker style cabinets are named after the Shakers, who valued simplicity. As the name suggests, these cabinets are meant to be simple but functional. Hundreds of years later, Shaker cabinets are still popular. What a testament to the strength and beauty of this style!

In fact, you’ve probably seen Shaker cabinets many times before. They are known for their rails and styles design. You’ll also recognize their recessed door panels. If you enjoy minimalist styles with tons of functionality, Shaker cabinets are right for you.

In terms of construction, Shaker cabinets often use durable woods from the Northeastern United States. For example, cherry, oak, maple, and hickory all work well. It follows that many homeowners choose to stain or glaze their cabinets to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. But painting is an option, too. White and gray are popular choices.

2. Modern/Contemporary

Modern and contemporary cabinets are also popular choices. They’re perfect for those who enjoy a minimalist look. That’s because they feature flat panels. There are also minimal or no fixtures. This lack of visible hardware creates a sleek design that many homeowners find relaxing.

Additionally, because all the surfaces in these cabinets are flat, they work well in small spaces. It’s easy to create taller cabinets with this style. And you’ll enjoy using every inch of cabinet space. Plus, the sleek design helps small spaces feel larger.

We recommend using maple wood because modern and contemporary cabinets are typically painted. However, composites are also an option. White, gray, and black are popular color choices.

3. Country/Rustic

Country/Rustic cabinets are one of the most popular cabinet styles here in North Carolina. If you love the country, farmhouse, or cabin look, this is the style for you.

Country/Rustic cabinets put the beauty of natural wood on display through paints, glazes, and stains. That’s why maple, hickory, oak, and pine are popular choices.

Additionally, many homeowners choose to include elements like mesh, tin, and decorative panels to increase the country/rustic charm of these cabinets. They also combine especially well with iron, copper, and granite features in your kitchen.

4. Traditional

Do you love beautiful, ornate cabinets? Then traditional cabinets are the style for you. They incorporate a variety of adornments and embellishments to give a grand appearance. Arches, moldings, and raised panels are popular choices. So are ornate wrought iron or bronze fixtures and glass panels.

Traditional cabinets typically give a formal look to your kitchen. That’s because they typically feature elaborate European designs. Alternatively, combine traditional ornate decor with a more country/rustic appearance. Tuscan and French Country kitchens are perfect examples of this style.

When it comes to wood, cherry, oak, and maple are good choices for traditional cabinets. Some homeowners choose a stain or glaze to bring attention to the natural wood. Others paint the cabinets and give them an antique or distressed look. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to make a statement with traditional cabinets.

Here at Edgewood Cabinetry, we offer all of the above styles of kitchen cabinets. And we’re happy to discuss your vision for your kitchen and help you choose cabinets to match.

As you think about the cabinet style you want, take a moment to consider the type of hardware you like, too. Hardware is like the icing on a cake. It completes the look of your cabinets. Need some inspiration? Check out these hardware styles to see which is best for you.

custom kitchen cabinet design

Purchasing new cabinets is an exciting prospect. But it can also be a confusing one. What is the difference between stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinet services? And how do you know which one to choose?

We have the answers. Here are stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinet services, explained.

Stock Cabinet Services

Stock cabinet services are the most affordable of the three options. But there’s a tradeoff. You won’t have the ability to customize your cabinets or fit them to your space.  And often, stock cabinets sacrifice quality.

You’ll need to be careful if you’re considering purchasing stock cabinets. While stock cabinets conform to standard sizes, there can be a wide variety in materials and craftmanship.

For example, many stock cabinets are constructed from particleboard or plywood. Some of the cheapest stock cabinets even include cardboard in their construction! If you are looking for durable cabinets that will stand the test of time, pay close attention to the materials your cabinets are made from.

Here at Edgewood Cabinetry, we craft our stock cabinets with the same care you can expect from our semi-custom and custom cabinets. They are simply standard size cabinets.

We never cut corners! Our stock cabinets are constructed from all wood. They also feature soft close hardware. Plus, we include a designed layout and professional installation.

Stock cabinets are wonderful if you want an affordable option and don’t need customization. Keep in mind, though, that stock cabinets come in predetermined sizes. So you may experience gaps where the cabinets do not completely fill your walls.

Semi-Custom Cabinet Services

Semi-custom cabinet services combine the affordability of stock cabinets with a few custom elements. For example, you can select different hardware. Or choose custom accessories to gain more function from your cabinets. Lazy Susans, drawer organizers, and pull-outs are excellent choices.

Additionally, you can customize the shade of paint or stain you prefer. We’re even able to color-match your cabinets! Just bring in a sample. We’ll be happy to match the shade.

You may still experience gaps with semi-custom cabinets. But you can choose custom elements to fill them. Add a shelf for your favorite knick-knacks. Include a spice rack. Or just dress your cabinets up with custom trim.

For many people, semi-custom cabinets strike the perfect balance between stock and fully custom cabinets. You’re still limited to stock cabinet sizes. But you can add a few personal touches.  That may be all the customization you need!

Custom Cabinet Services

Custom cabinet services are the most expensive of the three options. But they also offer you unlimited possibilities. So if your space and budget allow it, we can build it!

With custom cabinet services, you control every detail of your cabinets. Choose your favorite wood species. Select the perfect color. And pick out your own unique hardware. Plus, since custom cabinets are built to fit your space, you won’t have to worry about unsightly gaps.

Edgewood Cabinetry offers a full range of custom cabinet options. Include spice racks, drawer organizers, pull-downs, and more. We can even customize your range hood to match your new cabinets! Need a larger cabinet for oversize appliances? We can do that, too!

Furthermore, don’t be afraid to think outside the box! Want a custom kitchen island? No problem. Dreaming of a home bar? We’ll make it a reality.

At Edgewood Cabinetry, we work with you to design exactly the cabinets you want. And we’ll keep you involved at every step of the process. We want to be sure you’re satisfied!

The sky is the limit with custom cabinets! But remember, due to the design and customization process, custom cabinet services take the longest of the three options. However, they are well worth the wait. Your beautiful new cabinets will fit seamlessly into your home and cater to your unique needs.

Whether you opt for stock, semi-custom, or custom cabinet services, we hope you’ll choose Edgewood Cabinetry for your cabinet needs.

built-in entertainment center

If you love to entertain, then a great entertainment center is a must. Whether you host game nights at your house, invite friends to binge your favorite show, or your children have regular sleepovers, a top-notch entertainment center elevates the experience. Here are seven features to make an ultimate entertainment center you and your guests are sure to enjoy.

1. Adjustable TV Mount

Let’s face it, tastes and technology change over time. So if you’re going to invest in a custom-built entertainment center, one of the best features you can include is an adjustable TV mount. That’s because it allows your entertainment center to grow with you. Consequently, your entertainment center will work just as well for your next TV as it does for the one you currently have.

2. Built-In Bookcases

Built-in bookcases give your entertainment center an elegant appearance. They also provide the perfect way to display favorite photos, knick knacks, and novels, or to organize your media. Don’t forget to combine your bookcases with bottom cabinets if you’d like out-of-sight storage for less attractive items, too.

3. Cable Organization and Storage

Speaking of stowing away unsightly items, you’ll definitely want to add cable organization and storage to your custom entertainment center. After all, nothing looks worse than a jumble of tangled cables! It instantly ruins the look of your entertainment center and is distracting to guests. With built-in cable organization and storage, however, your cords and cables will be neatly organized and tucked out of sight. But don’t worry, they’re still easily accessible so you can reach them when necessary.

4. Accessory Storage

Along the same lines, accessory storage is a wonderful feature to include. It helps keep all your accessories easily accessible but out of sight when you’re not using them. This feature is perfect if your family is always losing remotes and controllers. Instead of having controllers strewn all over the room and remotes jammed between the sofa cushions, you’ll have a designated space to store them. As a result, you won’t have to search all over the house every time you want to use your TV or consoles!

5. Fitted Fireplace

Having an entertainment center in the same room as your fireplace often results in awkward placements. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to fit a prefabricated entertainment center around a fireplace, so many people end up with it awkwardly stuck in a corner. Fortunately, with a fitted fireplace entertainment center, that’s no longer a problem. We’ll build your entertainment center around your fireplace, so you can enjoy your fireplace and your TV at the same time. Can you think of anything more inviting on a cold winter’s day?

6. Glass Display Doors

If you have items you’d like to display but don’t quite trust leaving out in the open, glass display doors are a perfect solution. They’re an attractive way to protect valuable items. And they’re also great for keeping dust off your components. Plus, if you have components that use infrared remotes, glass display doors are indispensable. Without them, you’ll need to store your components on a shelf instead.

7. Speaker Stands

If you’ve invested in a high-quality audio system, you don’t want to be hampered by an entertainment center that prevents you from using it to the best of its ability. Thankfully, you can put your speakers exactly where you need them with custom-built speaker stands. Just imagine how incredible your next party or movie night will be!

Your entertainment center is on display any time you entertain. So make sure you have all the features you need to make the ultimate household entertainment center. At Edgewood cabinetry, we can custom-build your new entertainment center to fit any style and any room. Plus, we have tons of options and accessories to help bring your dream entertainment center to life.  So what are you waiting for?

New kitchen cabinets are a major investment. You want to know that your money is well-spent on cabinets you’ll continue to love for many years to come. That’s why it’s important to prepare before you purchase. Here are four things you should know before buying kitchen cabinets.

1. What’s Your Budget?

Quality kitchen cabinets aren’t cheap. In fact, new cabinets often make up 50% of the cost of remodeling a kitchen. But selecting well-made cabinets is a worthwhile investment. After all, you likely use your kitchen cabinets on a daily basis. And installing new cabinets dramatically changes the look of your kitchen, so it’s one of the best ways to upgrade your space.

However, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and trouble if you know your budget going into the project. That way, when you start getting quotes, you’ll have realistic expectations and can also prioritize what you want most if you’re working with a limited budget. For example, you may decide to keep some custom features but go with a cheaper species of wood. Or maybe the style is most important to you, so you’re willing to sacrifice some custom upgrades.

2. What Style Do You Like?

Cabinets come in a wide variety of styles, and that’s especially true when you work with a custom cabinet company like Edgewood Cabinetry. Having some idea of what you’re looking for saves you time during the purchase process (although we’re always happy to help you decide!). Do you love the European aesthetic with lots of embellishments? You want traditional cabinets. Prefer a minimalist design instead? Modern or Shaker styles will likely suit you best. Or maybe you’re dreaming of a country kitchen, in which case country/rustic cabinets are a perfect fit.

You should also think about the type of wood you like, along with the color of paint or stain you prefer. For example, Edgewood Cabinetry offers many wood species, such as mahogany, maple, oak, cherry, hickory, and pine. We can finish your cabinets with stains and glazing if you want to highlight the natural wood-grain. Or we can color-match any color of paint to give your cabinets the perfect look.

3. How Much Do You Want to Customize?

You’ll need to decide whether you want stock,  semi-custom, or fully custom cabinets. Stock cabinets are the cheapest option since they come in standard sizes. However, you should beware of purchasing stock cabinets on price alone. Many stock cabinets are made of particleboard or plywood covered in veneer and are not built to last. At Edgewood Cabinetry, our stock cabinets are always built from natural wood and are of the same superior quality as our custom cabinets. They’re simply made in standard sizes and don’t come with custom features.

Semi-custom cabinets are cheaper than fully-custom cabinets but still allow you to add some custom features. You can modify accents or add accessories, within the confines of standard stock cabinet sizes. If you’d like a few custom features but don’t have the budget to invest in fully custom cabinets, semi-custom cabinets are the way to go.

Finally, custom cabinets give you an unlimited range of options. You can customize every detail and add as many features as you like. Plus, custom cabinets are built to fit your space, so they don’t leave awkward gaps. And they allow you to maximize space by transforming every available inch into usable storage. The sky is the limit when it comes to custom cabinet options, so this is the choice to make your dream kitchen come to life.

4. What Options Do You Love?

Think about how you use your space and which features you need. Custom options and accessories always raise the price of your cabinets, but it’s a worthwhile investment to increase the beauty and utility of your kitchen. For example, you can add lazy Susans, drawer inserts, cabinet organizes, spice racks, pull-outs, and more. Decide what features are most important to you and which are nice-to-haves. That way, you’re prepared to make decisions when you begin getting quotes.

Ready to get started on your new kitchen cabinets? Contact us here. We’re happy to help.

You may think that custom cabinets are out of reach if you’re on a budget, but that’s not the case. If you’ve been dreaming of adding custom cabinets to your home but putting it off because of budget concerns, this is the post for you. With a little creativity and focus on priorities, you can stick to your budget and get custom cabinets you love. Here are some ideas to consider.

Opt for Stock Cabinets

Stock cabinets are the cheapest way to update your space. Since they’re already finished and come in standard sizes, they don’t cost as much to produce. And if the term “stock cabinet” conjures up cheap pressboard covered with veneer, be reassured that’s not the case for all stock cabinets. At Edgewood Cabinetry, we only offer all wood stock cabinets, so you can rest assured your new cabinets will be high quality and durable.

If you want to go with stock cabinets, you’ll need to choose cabinets that fit into your existing space. But stock cabinets can be an affordable option that allows you to choose a style you like. And remember, you can always add elements to the inside of your cabinets later on. They just won’t be built-in.

Choose Semi-Custom Cabinets

Sometimes, you want more customization than stock cabinets offer. That’s where semi-custom cabinets come in. With semi-custom cabinets, you can choose stock cabinets you love and add custom accents and accessories. So if you really want spice racks in your kitchen cabinets or a makeup organizer in your bathroom, you can add those options.

Instead of having custom cabinets built to specification, semi-custom cabinets allow you to include the elements you want most while saving money by working within stock cabinets. This is a great option if you want to get a few custom touches while saving on overall expense.

Add Fully Custom Cabinets in Select Spaces

One of the most frequent reasons homeowners want to install custom cabinets is to make better use of their space. It can be frustrating not to have adequate storage, especially in areas like the kitchen and bathroom, where accessories and appliances often just don’t fit. You don’t have to choose all custom or all stock cabinets. Instead, try working with stock cabinets where you can and adding custom cabinets where you need them most.

Maybe you can get away with stock cabinets in your laundry room, for example, but the single vanity in your bathroom just isn’t cutting it. In that case, it may make sense to invest in a custom vanity that has spaces for all your small appliances while saving money by using stock cabinets in another area of your home.

Choose More Affordable Options

Custom cabinets come in a range of options. The species of wood, style, size, stain, paint, hardware, and accessories you choose all impact the overall price. So if you want custom cabinets but need to lower the overall pricetag, consider choosing more affordable options. For example, instead of choosing a more expensive wood species, like cherry or mahogany, you may find that stained oak or maple could give you the look you love while being more cost effective.

Cutting out some of the frills, like specialty hardware, choosing simple shaker doors, and being selective about the custom accessories you include will also help you stick to your budget. Don’t be afraid to explore your options. You may find that some simple adjustments to your design will make your new cabinets much more affordable.

Custom cabinets don’t have to be out of reach just because you’re on a budget. Prioritizing your needs and working with your designer will help you choose the cabinets that work best for you. And remember, we don’t charge for design consulation, so it never hurts to explore your options.
