Unless you are planning a total remodel, the type of range hood you select is largely determined by your kitchen’s existing layout.
For esthetics as well as functionality, size matters. Whichever design you choose, be certain that it is at least as wide as the cooking surface it hangs over.
A hood that is vented works by forcing air outdoors and needs to be located on an outside wall, while a ventless model filters the air and returns it back into the room. This type of range hood has a filter that can either be replaced or simply washed and reused.
Know all your options before you choose the best range hood for your kitchen.
The under-cabinet hood
This hood is, by far, the most common. This is a space-saving model works for stoves that sit against a wall. They are available in a variety of finishes and will factor well into almost any décor style.
A wall-chimney hood
This hood can be installed over the range and vent directly outside. Once only used in professional kitchens, today they often take center stage in high-end rooms. Beautiful finishes and artistic design have made this style a popular choice.
Island-hoods
This hood connects directly to the ductwork in the ceiling and typically are designed to be wider that the cooking surface.
Ductless hoods simply direct the smoke and steam from cooking away from the stove and back into the room. While the filter does hold the oil and grease, and somewhat reduces odors, ultimately the smoke filled air is dispersed throughout the rest of the house.
With choices galore, and in a price range to fit all budgets, range hoods are a must have for a well-appointed kitchen.
